3 reasons why the computer will never be truly conscious
Artificial Intelligence has developed quite a bit in recent decades, and its expansion is far from over. It is obvious that, at this moment, AI is helpful to us. Moreover, many researchers say that robots could replace humans in many fields of activity. However, will they ever be able to be truly conscious? Many think not. If it is a pertinent opinion we will find out in the following.
Consciousness involves critical thinking
Humans are endowed with what we call critical thinking. It develops to a greater or lesser extent, depending on the personality and desire of each person. When it comes to a computer, it can't think critically. Most actions are automatic or scheduled. They are not based on a previous judgment, therefore, they are not made consciously.
The human brain doesn’t function like a computer
Adaptation and perception are key words when it comes to the human brain. He has the ability to rethink, to adapt to each situation, depending on perception. A computer does not have the ability to readjust to certain situations. If the situation is not like the initial programming, if the elements that change are multiple, it will give way. It cannot be subjected to new situations without having been pre-programmed.
A computer can’t make the difference between good and evil
Humans are "programmed" even from an early age to distinguish between good and evil. Thus, he will be able to be aware of the two concepts and act knowingly. On the other hand, a computer will not be able to make a conscious distinction. Yes, certain situations can be programmed for it to be defined in advance as good or bad. However, in unforeseen situations, it will not be able to act correctly, not even remotely consciously.
In conclusion ...
These are just three of the many reasons we can say that a computer cannot be truly aware. Yes, it may seem like having a dose of consciousness. However, it is not really conscious because, in the case of computers, we are talking more about programmed behavior. So, we think that a computer can’t be truly conscious.
